A voice recording is personal data under the GDPR — it identifies the speaker, and its content often identifies others. If you work in law, HR, research, healthcare administration or the public sector, sending recordings to a transcription service is a data-processing decision, and most popular tools process audio in the United States and retain it for undisclosed periods.
Axilero was built in Europe around the opposite model: process in the EU, keep nothing longer than the job requires, and be explicit about what happens at every step. This page describes that model concretely, so you can assess it against your own obligations.
Upload within the EU
Your file goes to EU-hosted infrastructure over an encrypted connection. Processing never leaves EU-located servers.

The audio exists in our systems only while the job runs — typically minutes. When transcription completes, the recording is deleted automatically everywhere it was held.

Only the text remains, in your account. Delete it whenever you choose — there's no retention period working against you.

What happens to your audio, precisely
The recording is held in temporary storage only while it is being transcribed, on GPU servers we restrict to EU locations. The moment the job completes, the audio is deleted automatically — from the processing server and from our orchestrating infrastructure. It is never archived, never reviewed by humans, never used to train or fine-tune AI models, and never shared with third parties.
This is data minimization implemented as architecture rather than policy: the system is built so recordings cannot accumulate.
No transatlantic transfer questions
Because processing happens exclusively on EU-located servers, using Axilero doesn't require you to evaluate third-country transfer mechanisms for the audio itself. For organizations whose DPOs flag US-cloud processing as a review trigger, that removes the hardest question before it's asked.
Relevant beyond the recording's owner
GDPR obligations usually concern the people in the recording — interviewees, meeting participants, callers — not just the person uploading it. Automatic deletion means you can honestly tell participants that the recording was used solely for transcription and no copy remains with a service provider. For research consent forms and internal privacy notices, that's a sentence you can write without caveats.
What Axilero doesn't do
No meeting bots joining calls. No training on customer data. No selling or sharing of content. No retention of audio after transcription. No processing outside the EU.
